Hi, my name is Joe DeShaw. I’m the general manager at ZUM Fitness in downtown Seattle, Washington. We’re a full-service health club, offering a full array of classes, including yoga, Pilates, fitness classes and CrossFit. We also offer private training, semi-private training, small-group training—we do it all.
I accepted the general manager position about 2.5 years ago and at that time, ZUM had no systems, we didn’t even have an org chart. We weren’t even tracking metrics. So at that time, ZUM was highly unorganized.
Thanks to NPE, I learned a lot of leadership systems to help give people clarity in their roles. I also learned a lot about making effective hiring, so our team is better now than it ever has been.
When I started, I was very scared, quite frankly, because I didn’t really know what I was doing; I had only been a trainer to that point. I learned the systems to help become a better leader, be more intelligent with finance, and also to be able to integrate the systems that make us tick a lot better.
As a result, we’ve gained over $30,000 more per month in revenue, and I see a future for ZUM fitness that I didn’t see at the very beginning. So needless to say, I’m very grateful for NPE.
